WashU senior Kate Farmer has been awarded the Joseph Rago Memorial Fellowship for Excellence in Journalism. In her upcoming role, Farmer will compose editorial articles for The Wall Street Journal.

The fellowship is designated in remembrance of Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial writer Joseph Rago, a burgeoning talent at The Wall Street Journal and an integral part of its editorial board before his untimely passing at age 34 in 2017.

Farmer is poised to graduate in May with majors in philosophy and data science from Arts & Sciences and is part of the Beyond Boundaries program. She has previously held the position of editor-in-chief for the Washington University Review of Philosophy and has seen her works published in RealClearPolitics, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and the Washington Examiner.

“Writing for The Wall Street Journal has long been my aspiration, and I’m thankful to the Rago family and the Fund for American Studies for bringing it to fruition,” Farmer expressed. “I aim to honor Joe Rago’s legacy and uphold the tradition of thoughtful, incisive journalism that he embodied.”
