EITS will conduct semiannual network upkeep leading to temporary disruptions of campus Internet connectivity and campus information systems on Nov. 2 from 4 a.m. to midnight.
EITS performs semiannual network maintenance in both the fall and spring each year to enable the network and deliver sufficient bandwidth and Internet capacity to the university.
If you are aware of events scheduled during this maintenance that may be affected and desire assistance with coordination, please reach out to Rayid Tartir at [email protected].
kindly disseminate information about this maintenance to faculty, staff, and students within your departments.
Essential points for the semiannual network maintenance:
- Services utilizing resources in the Boyd Data Center will encounter interruptions. This also encompasses UGA websites that are hosted in the Boyd Data Center. The university’s primary site, www.uga.edu, is located off-campus and will remain accessible.
- UGA’s Telephone Services will face occasional disruptions throughout this maintenance, impacting Teams phones and messaging. In case of an emergency, it is crucial to remember to use a mobile phone to reach UGA Police by dialing 911 instead of 706-542-2200. The UGA Police Department will continue to respond to all service calls during this period. Members of the campus community should bear in mind that 911 is always the correct number to dial for emergencies on campus. Should there be future interruptions in landline phone services at UGA, cell phones should be utilized to contact the police.
- Elevator emergency phones may fail to operate when phone services are interrupted, and mobile phone signal in elevators can be unreliable in certain buildings. It is advisable to use the stairs as much as possible during the maintenance period.
- Fire alarm panels in buildings may emit a continuous beep until phone service is restored, and potentially beyond if the system does not reset itself automatically. During the outage, there is no requirement to inform the UGA Police Department or Facilities Management Division about this situation. Nonetheless, employees and students should stay vigilant and notify the UGA Police Department if they notice any signs of fire or smoke.
