Respondus is an online assessment software designed for use in education that allows educators and administrators to proctor exams for students at home or school. Compatible with several learning management systems like Blackboard Learn and Canvas, Respondus also offers a 30-day free trial so instructors can see its effectiveness for themselves. Respondus prevents students from accessing other websites or devices during an exam as well as flag any suspicious activity for teachers’ review; additional features include identity verification, custom browser capabilities and screen capture prevention.
Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor program provides remote proctoring solutions that secure devices, webcams, microphones, eye movement trackers, sound trackers and gesture trackers to ensure students take exams in an acceptable environment. It can track eye movement, sounds, gestures and eye gaze data based on what the software considers inappropriate – although students have found ways around its restrictions and cheat during exams.
Respondus free trials give users access to test creation and download software that allows for publication in multiple sections of Blackboard Learn or printed for in-class delivery, with various question types supported such as calculated and algorithmic formats as well as spell checking an entire exam file. Respondus provides access to publisher test banks in Respondus format that are made available to instructors who adopt participating textbooks.
Single user licenses of the software can be purchased for $129 annually and include access to major version upgrades. As one of the lowest-cost authoring tools for eLearning, this one-user license represents great value for its price point. Users may purchase their single user license at either of three places: University Bookstore in person or over the telephone.
LockDown Browser and Monitor package is intrusive to privacy as it requires students to take virtual tours through a camera with it, with its Artificial Intelligence system flagging any behaviors it suspects of cheating. Furthermore, this technology exceeds student boundaries by tracking eye movements, sound waves, head movement data, eyelid movements and tracking eyelashes! In addition, their privacy policy states information will be shared with third parties.
Create exams offline
Respondus 4.0 allows instructors to easily create offline exams and upload them directly into their Bb Learn courses, or convert existing assessments (i.e. Word documents) into Canvas quizzes using this software. Respondus has been licensed campus-wide at the University of Iowa; you can download it from Box using your UID (Campus-Wide Login). After installing, an activation password will be emailed directly to you in order to ensure academic integrity and prevent unauthorized usage of Respondus on your computer. This password verification ensures academic integrity while preventing unauthorized usage of Respondus software by students or faculty using it on any personal computers at home or at work.
The software can run on most standard Windows computers with at least 32 MB of RAM and 10 MB of free hard disk space, with Windows XP or later recommended as an operating system. ANGEL can be integrated into Blackboard Desire2Learn eCollege Instructure WebCT systems; and IMS QTI compliant assessment systems as well.
Instructors can use Respondus Test Bank Network software to access publisher test banks that accompany textbooks. Instructors can utilize this network as a central location to locate and manage their tests – saving hours of work while benefitting from an intuitive interface in Respondus Software.
Instructors creating exams with ExamCircuit software can select questions from various files, including publishers’ test banks. They can copy selected questions from one file to the next and assign point values across question types. Furthermore, this software enables instructors to create and edit questions using various media formats – for instance creating questions that require students to write out mathematical or scientific notations.
Once a test has been created, it can be imported into an appropriate course in Bb Learn by selecting “Import to Course” from the File menu. After selecting both course and assessment, a status window will display its import process; once complete, a confirmation message will be displayed.
Convert existing exams
Respondus users can import their existing exams into the new version of Respondus software and use its features to import them directly. You have the choice between creating a new file or appending additional questions to an existing one, before viewing results in a browser-like window and printing or saving as Word document after reviewing results.
Respondus 4.0 software can be easily downloaded from the ITS Software Download site by entering your HawkID and password. Once logged in, accept the license agreement before seeking support from an Educational Technologist or setting an appointment with an Instructional Designer.
Respondus 4.0 can be used to create and manage exams, quizzes, surveys, self-tests and more. Its tools can also be pushed directly to Canvas courses for use. Respondus has been licensed at the University of Delaware until July 31, 2022 when renewal will be determined by faculty committee.
Respondus 4.0’s exam conversion feature allows instructors to import existing exams into its new version, where it will allow them to create pooled questions for all students, print an accessible exam version and publish the exam into Canvas courses.
When converting an exam, the software will provide a wizard to assist in its conversion. Step one should be to select an exam type and answer options; once complete, click Next; this will then prompt you to create a name and description for your new exam.
Some questions cannot be converted to other course management systems, and when this occurs the wizard will prompt you to drop or quarantine them into a separate file. Furthermore, this software allows for selection of question type that will appear within this new file.
Respondus 4.0 allows Windows users to easily create offline assessments, compatible with various eLearning systems such as ANGEL, Blackboard, Desire2Learn, eCollege and WebCT. The tool supports 15 question types including calculated and algorithmic formats; additionally it can check an entire exam file spell checker and access publisher test banks for thousands of textbooks.
Access publisher test banks
If you are using a textbook published by a publisher for your course, chances are the publisher offers an accompanying test bank that instructors can utilize as time savers in creating online exams or learning activities. Respondus Campus-Wide allows accessing these publisher test banks; additionally it has been designed to interface with various learning management systems so exams may be transferred between systems easily.
Once you’ve downloaded Respondus software from mystarkstate, install it on your computer by double-clicking to open and following all prompts. Afterward, enter any information provided from the Service Now page into the Licensing Screen so as to receive your license key which allows for its use both at Stark State and home.
The Test Bank Network wizard allows instructors to search for textbook publishers. Once found, instructors can submit a request form to request their test bank; upon receiving one from a publisher, an email with file code and password details will be sent directly to them so that they may register it within Respondus and copy any questions into their own files.
Respondus Test Bank Network provides another feature called Flag Questions that allows instructors to mark specific questions as “not correct” or “not important,” which allows them to quickly identify problematic areas in their exams and make improvements accordingly.
Respondus allows instructors to easily create assessments that comply with Section 508 requirements, making the program particularly helpful when creating assessments for students with special accommodations. Additionally, Respondus prompts instructors when adding images or equations into assessments; entering ALT tags becomes automatically mandatory during this process.
Respondus 4.0 provides no features that cannot be accomplished directly within a learning management system, yet can make creating assessments that meet accessibility standards easier for students with disabilities and in-class examinations that can be printed for distribution to students.
