Expanding worldwide access to AI competencies with innovative content and product experiences
By Greg Hart, Chief Executive Officer, Coursera
The swift expansion and enhancements in AI have sparked an extraordinary appetite for AI skills — a trend that continues to grow.
On AI Appreciation Day, I’m delighted to share that there have been over 10 million sign-ups in GenAI courses on Coursera, with 12 new registrations occurring every minute in 2025. Since the introduction of ChatGPT less than three years ago, learners around the globe have dedicated more than 10 million learning hours to cultivate GenAI skills — which equates to nearly 1,000 years. As they acquire knowledge, they increasingly leverage our GenAI tools to customize their experiences, ranging from receiving immediate assistance with Coursera Coach to studying in their chosen language through AI translations and dubbing.
To build on this progress, we are thrilled to collaborate with top-tier AI organizations to enhance our GenAI catalog, which currently boasts over 925 courses.

How Coursera’s AI capabilities enable tailored, accessible learning at scale
Coursera has taken a leading role in leveraging AI to transform the educational experience. Just a few months after the debut of ChatGPT, we introduced several flagship GenAI services to translate materials, tailor learning via Coach, and accelerate course creation with CourseBuilder. Since then, we’ve consistently innovated on these tools and launched new offerings.
Today, I’m excited to illustrate how these capabilities are achieving tangible benefits — securing Coursera placements on TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies list, Newsweek’s AI Impact Award recipients, and Forrester’s Leaders in Technology Skills Development Platforms.
AI translations: Enhancing global access to high-quality education
In April 2023, we utilized AI to translate 2,000 courses in six different languages. Now, we provide over 5,500 courses and 65 Professional Certificates in 26 languages, promoting engagement for learners across the globe.
- 1.3 million learners have logged 3.8 million sign-ups in AI-translated courses.
- The most engaged learners originate from Mexico, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Peru, and Spain.
- Learners completed translated courses at higher rates and nearly 25% quicker.
AI dubbing: Mitigating the language barrier
Building on the success of AI translations, we launched AI dubbing in April 2025 to bring native-language learning to life. We have already broadened our offerings and now feature over 300 courses.

offered in five languages, which is fostering significant early uptake and interaction.
- Over 120,000 students have utilized AI dubbing for more than 425,000 hours of education.
- Dubbing has experienced the highest activity in Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, and Chile.
- Approximately half of the students reported that dubbing enhanced their concentration, comprehension, and enjoyment.
Coursera Coach: Providing tailored learning and quantifiable outcomes
Introduced in April 2023, Coach commenced as a personal tutor driven by LLMs and rooted in course content, assisting students with inquiries, feedback, video summaries, and more. Presently, Coach can also deliver career guidance and facilitate engaging, instructor-led teaching — ultimately revolutionizing the learning experience.
- Over 2.6 million learners have exchanged 36 million messages with Coach.
- Coach aids traditionally underserved learners and is more frequently utilized by women (~11%), individuals without a degree (~11%), and newcomers to their careers (40%).
- Students engaging with Coach are 9.5% more inclined to pass quizzes on their first try and accomplish 11.6% more tasks per learning hour.
AI-driven Course Builder: Expediting course development
In a rapidly evolving environment, Course Builder assists institutions in swiftly producing high-quality content. This tool, unveiled in April 2023, employs AI to automatically generate course outlines, readings, assignments, and glossaries — significantly minimizing time and expenses required to create or modify a course.
- More than 3,400 courses have been developed using Course Builder, resulting in 665,000 enrollments.
- Educational institutions were the primary users of Course Builder, followed by corporations and governmental bodies.
- Institutional content generation expanded 3.5x year-over-year.
AI-supported Academic Integrity: Expanding verified education
As GenAI becomes a standard educational resource, institutional leaders require innovative methods for validating learning achievements. In June 2024, we introduced a range of academic integrity tools to restrict access in critical situations, regulate online settings, identify plagiarism, and evaluate genuine understanding — leading to a measurable effect for millions.
- These academic integrity tools have facilitated learning in 8.2M course completions.
- Low-effort completions decreased by 75%, plagiarized submissions by 30%, and misconduct during monitoring by 90%.
On AI Appreciation Day, we honor how AI can foster positive transformations. We are immensely proud of how learners, educators, and institutions are acquiring GenAI skills on Coursera and employing them responsibly to rethink how we learn, instruct, and ultimately, create a more inclusive future.
Join the educational revolution and enroll in a GenAI course today.
