The University of Georgia’s versatile musical theater scholars have incorporated an additional proficiency to their profiles, as their recently established display is unveiled at the UGA Special Collections Libraries.

The Golden Age of Broadway, an exhibit curated by students featuring vintage Broadway musical posters and memorabilia, debuted in the Rotunda Gallery on March 4. The learners will exhibit their vocal, theatrical, and dance talents with a unique performance to commemorate the showcase this spring. The complimentary event is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 24, and all members of the university and Athens community are invited.

The display and linked performance are the outcomes of two semesters of inventive research conducted by students under the mentorship of George Contini, Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor in the UGA department of theater and film studies, alongside archivists Jan Hebbard and Mazie Bowen from the Special Collections Libraries. The inception of this initiative traces back to 2021, when Contini was appointed as a participant in the Special Collections Faculty Teaching Fellows program, which supports faculty in creating archive-focused courses that spark students’ interest and enhance their research and analytical thinking abilities.
