Pannill Camp, an assistant professor of drama within the Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences at WashU, has been honored with the Oscar G. Brockett Essay Award from the American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR).

Co-presented by the ASTR and the Oscar G. Brockett Center for Theatre History and Criticism at the University of Texas at Austin, this award acknowledges the finest essay of the year focusing on any topic in theater research published in English in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal or collection.

Camp was awarded the Brockett Prize for his essay “Action and Event: The Social Theoretical Precursors of Performance Theory.” Featured in the winter 2023 issue of TDR: The Drama Review, the piece delves into the evolution of performance theory, the connection between performance and societal change, and how performance might influence social dynamics on a systemic scale.
