The Florida Board of Governors has designated Brian Murphy to serve on Florida State University’s Board of Trustees as of July 11. His tenure commences immediately.

Murphy, who earned degrees in accounting and finance from FSU in 2000, is the creator and CEO of ReliaQuest, one of the world’s fastest-growing cybersecurity technology enterprises. ReliaQuest enhances visibility, diminishes complexity, and mitigates risk with its AI-driven security operations platform, GreyMatter.

“I’m extremely pleased that Brian has consented to join the Board of Trustees,” stated Peter Collins, chair of the FSU Board of Trustees. “As an alumnus, he is deeply committed to the university and is eager to work tirelessly to improve it. I am looking forward to his contribution alongside a remarkable group of individuals dedicated to advancing the university.”

Murphy has transformed ReliaQuest from a self-funded startup into a rapidly growing, AI-driven technology firm valued at over $3.4 billion, now employing over 1,200 individuals and serving more than 1,000 clients. The company’s headquarters is located in Tampa, with operational centers in Tampa, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Dublin, London, Amsterdam, and Pune, India. ReliaQuest is consistently recognized among FORTUNE Magazine’s Best Workplaces in Technology and Inc. Magazine’s Top Workplaces.

“We are excited to welcome Brian Murphy to the FSU Board of Trustees,” remarked President Richard McCullough. “As a prominent alumnus with a strong dedication and extensive history of service to his alma mater, Brian contributes a vast amount of business expertise and technological knowledge that will be an invaluable benefit to the university.”

Murphy occupies the position of Board Chairman and Founders Circle Member at Embarc Collective, Florida’s most rapidly expanding startup hub. He was inducted into the Florida State University College of Business Hall of Fame in 2022 and has participated on the Board of Governors for the Florida State University College of Business. In 2017, he was a featured speaker at FSU’s Spring commencement.

“Being appointed to the Board of Trustees at Florida State University is a significant privilege,” Murphy expressed. “FSU provided me with opportunities that profoundly impacted my life. I am eager to support the university in assisting others to realize their potential.”

Murphy was acknowledged as one of Goldman Sachs’ standout entrepreneurs in 2023 and was named an EY Entrepreneur of The Year® in 2017. In 2020, he received Junior Achievement’s Vanguard Award for his contributions to youth education and development.

The appointment requires confirmation by the Florida Senate.
