During a singular Spring Break, 17 students from the University of Georgia, predominantly in their freshman year, traversed the Atlantic to delve into the realm of computing—its past, present, and future. This journey provided them with an insight into the swiftly evolving prospects their future professions may entail.

The initiative “World of Computing,” a segment of UGA’s Connect Abroad, transported students to London, recognized as one of the globe’s premier technology centers, to examine the discipline from the perspectives of scholars, industry pioneers, and historical personalities. While the excursion primarily attracted students focused on technology-related fields, it welcomed individuals from all academic backgrounds for a straightforward reason:

“Computers are ubiquitous, aren’t they?” states Bradley Barnes PhD ’11, a senior lecturer and undergraduate coordinator for UGA’s School of Computing who facilitated the initiative. “In every area of study, students could gain from a more profound comprehension of computers, no matter their specific discipline.”
