Cannes, Sundance, Tribeca.

All are prominently remembered when considering elite film festivals, yet for cinematic scholars in Georgia, Backlight is the venue to showcase and gain recognition.

The Backlight Student Film Festival marked its fourth edition at the University of Georgia’s Tate Student Center on March 29 and 30, featuring screenings, panel dialogues, awards, networking opportunities, and—what would a film festival be without it?—a red carpet event.

Although the festival has its origins at UGA, it encourages both undergraduate and graduate student filmmakers from all over Georgia to submit their works and invites the community to partake in the celebrations.
