It’s the afternoon during UGA’s 2024 Homecoming Game and the sun shines intensely on Sanford Stadium. As Stephen Amolegbe Jr. is honored as Homecoming King, he feels the perspiration trickling down his suit, hears the audience cheer from the stands, and he reflects, “This is the most incredible day of my existence.”
In his role as vice president of the UGA Student Government Association, Amolegbe dedicated much of Homecoming Week to coordinating events, guiding his fellow students, and advocating for Homecoming activities. His attention has consistently been on the forthcoming challenge and how he can maximally contribute.
When he wasn’t engaged in organizing one of the year’s most significant events, Amolegbe collaborated with the student government to establish affordable transit options for out-of-state and international students. The student government cabinet worked alongside UGA’s Auxiliary Services to initiate airport transportation for those students. Amolegbe mentions that his role as vice president has fostered a sense of duty to represent the student populace in a way that uplifts the entire community.
“I truly enjoy being a ‘megaphone’ for my peers. Even when I lack the ideas, I can still advocate for my classmates and assist them in reaching their aspirations,” he states.
