Dear FSU Community,
In the upcoming week, we will unite to commemorate commencement, one of the most joyous customs in academic life.
This occasion allows us to celebrate the dedication and determination of our graduates and to gaze forward with pride and optimism. We will confer the highest number of degrees in the history of Florida State University. This is a significant achievement deserving of celebration — for our students, their loved ones, and all who contributed to their journey.
However, this year also calls for a moment of introspection.
Every ceremony, including that of Panama City, will commence with a moment of silence to pay tribute to Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba, whose lives were tragically lost during the recent violence that impacted the Tallahassee campus. We will also take time to reflect on those who are still healing from their injuries and the resilience they have demonstrated. Additionally, we will recognize the bravery and compassion we have witnessed since then — a testament to the finest aspects of Florida State.
Measures have been implemented to enhance security at all commencement celebrations. You will notice an increased presence of law enforcement and support staff to help maintain a secure and nurturing environment.
These ceremonies will serve as a profound reminder of our shared community values: resilience, empathy, and hope for the future. I eagerly anticipate joining you in this momentous celebration.

Thank you for everything you have accomplished — and continue to achieve — in supporting one another.
With appreciation,
Richard McCullough
FSU President
