Florida State University’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy (COSSPP) now provides a postgraduate certification in Public Health Epidemiology to tackle population health concerns and disease prevention through the examination of health-related occurrences.
Graduates will acquire the expertise and instruments necessary to evaluate health outcomes and patterns, analyze epidemiologic public health data and program effectiveness, and implement public health monitoring.
“The FSU Public Health Program takes pride in introducing a graduate-level certification in epidemiology,” remarked Director of the Public Health Program and Teaching Professor Alan Rowan. “This certification program highlights essential principles, methodologies, and practical uses of epidemiology to comprehend and protect the health of communities and avert diseases.”
The 12-credit postgraduate certificate encompasses four foundational courses: Public Health Epidemiology, Chronic Disease Epidemiology, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, and Social Epidemiology.
“Once completed, students will have developed a thorough skill set and acquired in-depth knowledge in the analysis of health-related incidents,” Rowan stated. “This certification offers significant training in population health for healthcare providers and public health practitioners.”
The certification is accessible to both degree candidates and non-degree candidates. The application process for fall 2025 will commence in the second week of classes and conclude on Nov. 14, 2025. Interested students must submit their application prior to reaching the sixth credit hour of the program.
All coursework must be completed within seven years from the date of initial enrollment, and students are required to achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 to receive the certification.
