The Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has appointed two esteemed pediatricians as co-vice chairs of clinical research in the department. These new positions took effect on January 1.

According to the department’s leader, Gary A. Silverman, MD, PhD, the Harriet B. Spoehrer Professor, the promotion of these faculty members was part of the department’s goal to enhance and unify clinical and translational research initiatives across the department, the medical school, and the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences.

The following individuals were promoted:

  • Ana Maria Arbeláez, MD, the David English Smith Professor of Medicine and director of the Division of Endocrinology & Diabetes, who investigates the impact of diabetes on neurological function.
  • Stephanie A. Fritz, MD, the Ferring Family Chair Professor of Pediatrics, a physician-scientist researching methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
