I am thrilled to share that Coursera Coach secured the Newsweek AI Impact Award for AI Education: Outstanding Outcomes in Commercial Learning. This accolade acknowledges advancements utilizing AI to address significant business obstacles and produce quantifiable results.
Coach serves as an AI-driven personal mentor aimed at revolutionizing online education to be more tailored, engaging, and effective for millions of learners globally. It leverages extensive language models and is uniquely rooted in course content from premier institutions such as Stanford, Yale, and Google. By providing a personal tutor that offers ongoing support across Coursera’s extensive catalog in 26 languages, Coach facilitates deeper engagement with courses for learners of all backgrounds. Since its debut, Coach has exchanged over 34 million messages with upwards of 2.4 million learners.
“AI is transforming our reality, and the organizations honored with this recognition are leading that evolution,” stated Jennifer H. Cunningham, editor-in-chief of Newsweek. “We are honored to highlight the companies whose technologies and methodologies are expanding the limits of what AI can accomplish—safely and efficiently.”
The beta version of Coach was introduced in April 2023—merely six months following the launch of ChatGPT—and I am immensely enthusiastic about how it signifies a significant advancement in realizing the potential of personalized and accessible education. Beginning from the initial trial on lecture pages in 2023, to enhancing the user experience to emphasize video explanations, practice queries, pre-quiz preparation, and course navigation in 2024, we persist in refining Coach to aid more learners with even greater customization, accessibility, and impact throughout the platform. With Coach, learners globally, especially those overlooked by conventional education systems, can more effectively acquire the skills necessary to unlock economic potential.
