MIT has once more been recognized as the leading university globally by the QS World University Rankings, which were revealed today. This marks the 14th consecutive year that MIT has earned this honor.

The complete 2026 edition of the rankings — released by Quacquarelli Symonds, an institution focused on education and international study — is available at TopUniversities.com. The QS rankings rely on various criteria, including academic standing, reputation among employers, citations per faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, percentage of international faculty, and percentage of international students.

Additionally, MIT was designated the leading university worldwide in 11 subject domains evaluated by QS, as was reported in March of this year.

The Institute achieved a top spot in the following QS subject areas: Chemical Engineering; Civil and Structural Engineering; Computer Science and Information Systems; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Linguistics; Materials Science; Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering; Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy; and Statistics and Operational Research.

Furthermore, MIT obtained the second position in seven subject domains: Accounting and Finance; Architecture/Built Environment; Biological Sciences; Business and Management Studies; Chemistry; Earth and Marine Sciences; and Economics and Econometrics.
