The Journey of Audrey Lendvay: A Tale of Inspiration and Resilience

Audrey Lendvay, majoring in studio art with a minor in museum studies, actively participates in the Florida State University community by crafting research projects focused on sustainable art practices and has revitalized a student organization for fellow art scholars.

She aims to foster a robust sense of community within the College of Fine Arts by offering art students avenues to exhibit their creations and cultivate professional capabilities.

Lendvay, a participant in the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, holds an IDEA Grant and takes on a leadership role in the Art Students League at FSU.

What inspired your enthusiasm to attend FSU?

I was thrilled to be accepted into FSU, my top choice, due to its diverse programs and the exceptional, closely-knit fine arts department.

Which academic accomplishments fill you with pride?

Throughout my academic journey, I have cultivated a passion for research-oriented and inquiry-based practices via undergraduate research projects. I have collaborated on two initiatives: “Open Worlds: An Exploration of Unacknowledged Spaces,” a painting investigation supported by an IDEA Grant, and “Salvage Material Supply,” a project through the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program aimed at making eco-friendly art supplies available. These experiences enhanced my skills in project management, innovative problem-solving, and professional writing.

In what ways have you contributed to the FSU community?

Since my sophomore year, I have been involved in efforts to revive the FSU Art Students League, the sole student-run art gallery linked to FSU. I have actively worked to collaborate with faculty and peers to broaden the club’s scope and reinvigorate a new member base, thereby continuing the club’s over decade-long legacy.

My objective is to consistently coordinate new and captivating student art exhibitions while fostering a vibrant and impactful community among FSU art students through the league. Currently, our club has grown from one member to 30, and we celebrated the opening of our second show of the spring semester on Feb. 14.

How have you participated in the FSU community and beyond?

I am dedicated to cultivating community within the realms of the arts, cultural heritage, gallery management, and creative research. I have not only created a significant platform for connection among students and the Art Students League but also opened professional avenues for emerging artists by arranging eight art exhibitions to date.

I have additionally contributed to establishing a complimentary campus resource for sustainable materials and information regarding sustainable art practices for all FSU students through Salvage Material Supply. I engaged in two student-organized museum exhibits, “The Art of Persistence: Exploring Symbols, Materials, and Function in Southwestern Indigenous Art” and “Zooarchaeology: Decoding Decay,” aimed at sharing culturally relevant knowledge with new audiences. Currently, I am a collections and research intern at the Museum of Florida History, where I have authored research spotlight publications to enhance Floridians’ understanding of our history.
