Celebrating a Century: Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society’s Legacy at FSU

The most ancient academic honor society at Florida State University commemorated the chapter’s centennial anniversary during its annual initiation event.

The FSU chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society celebrated the significant milestone during its annual initiation event on April 9 at the Grand Ballroom located in the FSU Alumni Center.

“Phi Kappa Phi’s motto — Let the passion for knowledge govern mankind’— elegantly embodies the essence of this event and the principles that connect us this evening,” FSU Provost Jim Clark stated at the gathering. “It is that passion for knowledge that has steered our new members through difficulties, inspired their achievements, and led you here today.”

Established in 1925, Phi Kappa Phi was the inaugural honor society formed at FSU – then referred to as the Florida State College for Women – and became the initial chapter of that honor society within the state of Florida.

The honor society comprises students from various academic fields across all FSU campuses, at every level from undergraduate to doctoral degrees. Founded at the University of Maine in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi inducts approximately 20,000 members annually on over 300 campuses throughout the U.S. and its territories.
