The Florida State University has honored two exceptional researchers with the Distinguished University Scholar Award in acknowledgment of their extensive history of scholarly work.
“Our esteemed faculty spearhead significant initiatives, mentor the upcoming generation of academics, and provide expertise that is often rare,” stated Vice President for Research Stacey S. Patterson. “Their dedication and commitment are crucial to FSU’s achievements. It’s a privilege to acknowledge their inputs with the Distinguished University Scholar Award.”
The honorees were granted a one-time sum of $10,000 and are entitled to retain the title of Distinguished University Scholar throughout their tenure at FSU. This award specifically acknowledges non-tenure track faculty members focused exclusively on either teaching or research efforts.
The awardees for this year include:
Xiaobiao Xu, Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies
Xiaobiao Xu serves as a senior research scientist at the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies, employing high-resolution numerical models to analyze extensive ocean circulation and its impact on climate. He has secured funding from various organizations, including the National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Office of Naval Research. He completed his doctorate at the University of Miami in 2006 and became a part of Florida State University in 2012.
Jan Jaroszynski, National High Magnetic Field Laboratory
Jan Jaroszynski occupies the position of Research Faculty III at the Florida State University-affiliated National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. He is a distinguished researcher in the fields of condensed matter physics, material science, and the development of scientific instruments. Notably, he created a high torque magnetometer used by physicists to analyze and comprehend the conductance of materials in high-magnetic fields across a diverse array of temperatures and angles. He earned his doctorate in physics from the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and joined the MagLab in 2000.
