As the 2024-2025 school year approached its conclusion, personnel at the University of Georgia were honored at the Spring Staff Appreciation Celebration for their contributions to the institution.

“The success of the University of Georgia relies on the commitment, skill, and effort of our exceptional staff,” remarked President Jere W. Morehead. “I am sincerely appreciative of everything our staff does to advance our mission and enhance our dynamic campus community.”

Held on May 12 at Stegeman Coliseum and organized by the Office of the President in partnership with University Human Resources, the event featured a luncheon with Chick-fil-A sandwiches, chips, and various other refreshments.

“I really appreciated having lunch on the coliseum floor and being able to utilize all the photo booths,” shared Wanda Darden, an administrative specialist in the Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program.

Three photo booths — including one that spins 360 degrees — enabled participants to capture special moments, featuring photo opportunities with Hairy Dawg and Spike. A DJ provided lively music while attendees mingled, and images of the staff were shown on the jumbotron throughout the celebration. As they departed, staff members received a UGA cooling towel to help cope with the summer heat.

“I enjoy the atmosphere, and it’s quite entertaining,” commented Mandy Grizzle, business manager in the physiology and pharmacology department at the College of Veterinary Medicine. “It’s wonderful that they provided us lunch and offered a chance to catch up with friends from around the campus.”

Not only was the celebration entertaining, but it also served as a vital occasion for staff to connect with colleagues from other schools, colleges, departments, and units — something many staff members find valuable.

“I really appreciate how welcoming it is, allowing you to move around and engage with both familiar faces and new ones,” noted Chloe Sirmans, communications specialist in the Office of Government Relations.

Rebecca Mayo, president of the UGA Staff Council and coordinator in the Office of Animal Care and Use within the Office of Research, expresses hope that gatherings like this will continue for many years to come.

“This event was a significant, collaborative effort among multiple units driven by a shared intention to honor and acknowledge the contributions of UGA staff,” Mayo stated. “The Staff Council is eager to keep working together to promote initiatives that show appreciation for the remarkable staff at UGA.”
