In a mere thirty minutes, three funnels swept through Tallahassee on May 10, 2024, uprooting trees, damaging roofs, and destroying one of Florida State University’s most cherished sites: the Flying High Circus tent.
Since the mid-1960s, the FSU Flying High Circus has been the sole collegiate circus to have its own big top. The tornadoes left the circus devoid of its iconic tent, which had served for decades as a mark of school pride and tradition.
For almost a year, the circus crew practiced in confined spaces and adapted without their hallmark venue.
