Ulugbek Kamilov, an associate professor specializing in electrical and systems engineering as well as computer science and engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, has been appointed as the first Donald L. Snyder Career Development Professor.
This appointment occurred during a commemoration celebrating the late Snyder, who was the former chair of the Preston M. Green Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering and passed away in 2022. A variant of the innovative image reconstruction technique he created in the 1980s continues to be utilized today. A visionary and a forerunner, he also contributed to the Biomedical Computer Laboratory at WashU Medicine, playing a key role in the development of positron emission tomography (PET) systems. He was among the initial researchers to integrate mathematical theory with physics modeling in the design of imaging systems.
The Donald L. Snyder Career Development Professorship was established by the Snyder family through their donor-advised fund.
Kamilov is at the forefront of revolutionary research in computational imaging, an interdisciplinary domain that encompasses the design of imaging systems, physics-based modeling, and data-driven analysis for biomedical and scientific purposes.
