The University of Huddersfield has today revealed the initiation of its inaugural fully online undergraduate program on Coursera. The BSc(Hons) in Data Science is crafted to provide learners across the globe with the technical, analytical, and mathematical competencies essential for thriving in today’s data-centric economy.

This degree, which presents adaptable full- and part-time learning avenues, targets both budding data analysts and current professionals aiming to formalize or enhance their expertise. Conducted entirely online by Huddersfield’s award-winning faculty, the curriculum amalgamates applied mathematics, statistical principles, and practical technical abilities along with advanced tools such as Python, SQL, and AI model creation.

The launch occurs amidst considerable global demand for data proficiency. The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 indicates that positions for Big Data Specialists are predicted to be the quickest expanding job category from 2025 to 2030, significantly propelled by the swift progression and integration of artificial intelligence. This degree prepares learners to step directly into these burgeoning fields, armed with both the theoretical foundation and hands-on experience that employers seek.

In alignment with both entities’ missions to broaden access to quality education, the BSc Data Science provides a performance-driven admissions pathway. Candidates lacking conventional qualifications, yet showing promise through previous experience or self-study, can gain admission by successfully completing the first 60 credits of the program.

“The necessity for proficient data professionals has never been as high, and we’re delighted to collaborate with the University of Huddersfield to address this demand,” stated Marni Baker Stein, Chief Content Officer at Coursera. “This fresh online Bachelor’s degree furnishes learners with the vital data science and AI skills that employers are seeking. With flexible learning options and a performance-based admissions route, students can acquire job-ready skills without interrupting their personal lives or careers.”

Recently recognized as the UK’s most improved university by QS World Rankings 2025, the University of Huddersfield is now placed within the top 50 in the UK. This acknowledgment reflects its continual investment in educational excellence, research, and student achievement – both on campus and online.

“Expanding our online offerings to undergraduates with the launch of our first online-only Bachelor’s program marks a significant advancement for Distance Learning at the University of Huddersfield,” commented Sean Pryor, Head of Distance Learning at the University of Huddersfield. “We recognize the importance of a flexible learning approach, and all our tailored Distance Learning courses have been developed with this in consideration, enabling students to pursue a degree while balancing other responsibilities and surmounting geographical challenges.
