Zachary Stiles acknowledged that he committed a few errors when he began developing his research paper for a history course. However, as the second-year history student navigated through the process, he not only achieved an excellent mark but also received $1,000 — the top honor in the University of Georgia Libraries Undergraduate Research Awards.

For the accolade, Stiles contemplated his research journey by designing an online course module that can instruct fellow students on comprehending historical methodology, exploring archives for materials, and constructing a superior essay.

“Zac transformed his own research experience into an educational resource, illustrating his own triumphs and setbacks so that upcoming researchers could benefit from his insights,” stated Chandler Christoffel, the head of UGA Libraries’ academic engagement division and co-chair of the assessment committee. “All of this year’s award recipients demonstrated a remarkable level of originality and personal reflection in their projects, and we take pride in how our librarians and resources supported them in their research endeavors.”
