Scientists examined trade-associated threats to energy stability across 1,092 scenarios aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 2060. Their findings indicated that transitioning from reliance on imported fossil fuels to greater reliance on essential minerals for renewable energy has the potential to enhance security for many countries – including the U.S., provided it develops new trading relationships.
