“For over thirty years, Andrea Mitchell has set the benchmark for news correspondents with her unmatched coverage of politics and global affairs. She has truly traveled the world to bring us narratives that have influenced history,” remarked Jeffrey Jones, executive director of Peabody. “And Saturday Night Live stands as a cultural milestone that has kept viewers engaged for fifty years with its innovative sketch comedy, sharp political satire, and consistently relevant musical acts. We are excited to celebrate both Mitchell and the SNL community with these distinguished Peabody accolades.”

Mitchell serves as NBC News’ chief Washington and chief foreign affairs correspondent. She has dedicated nearly five decades to NBC News — with over 30 years as the news division’s primary foreign affairs correspondent — reporting on some of the most significant events of our time. Her coverage spans eight presidential administrations, twelve electoral campaigns, and numerous conflicts and pivotal occurrences across the world.

Aside from receiving a Peabody Award for her reporting on the Texas abortion prohibition, she has also been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Television Academy in 2019 and has garnered various journalism accolades throughout her career. Past recipients of the Peabody Career Achievement Award include Mel Brooks, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno, Dan Rather, Cicely Tyson, and Carol Burnett.

“Saturday Night Live” has led the charge in topical comedy for half a century, under the direction of creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels, winning 101 Emmy Awards, which includes those for specials and digital initiatives, six Writers Guild of America Awards, and three Peabody Awards.

The program has introduced unforgettable characters such as Roseanne Roseannadanna, the Church Lady, Fr. Guido Sarducci, Wayne and Garth, the Blues Brothers, and Stefon, and has welcomed over 150 cast members throughout its fifty years on the air. The series has also spoofed presidents and politicians from both major parties, entertaining millions with its incisive writing concerning the American political arena. Its “cold opens” inspired by current events and longstanding “Weekend Update” segments consistently deliver the most viral moments during any week.

The Peabody Awards celebrate narratives that uphold public interest, foster empathy, and broaden our comprehension of the world. Esteemed for its integrity and honored for its high standards, the Peabody, selected annually by a varied panel of jurors through unanimous consensus, is a prestigious accolade unlike any other for television, podcast/radio, and immersive and interactive media.

Awards will be presented in the following categories: entertainment, documentary, news, podcast/radio, arts, children’s and youth, immersive and interactive media, and programming for public service.

The nominees for the 2025 Peabody Awards will be revealed on April 15 and 17, with winners announced on May 1.
