The Museum of Fine Arts at Florida State University is set to inaugurate two fresh exhibitions this month, concentrating on Indigenous art from Latin America and exhibiting the creations of FSU’s graduating Master of Fine Arts (MFA) studio art students.
“Conversaciones: Latin American Indigenous Art”
April 3 – Dec. 5, 2025
The exhibition “Conversaciones: Latin American Indigenous Art” will commence on Thursday, April 3, presenting modern Latin American art alongside seldom-seen gems from FSU’s collections, including Mayan textiles, ancient Andean pottery, metalworks, and other artifacts.

This exhibition is organized in collaboration with FSU’s Native American and Indigenous Studies Center (NAIS) and co-curated by the museum’s director, Kaylee Spencer, in addition to Michael Carrasco, a professor of art history and associate dean for research in the College of Fine Arts.
“The NAIS Center and I are exhilarated that MoFA has assembled this splendid exhibition,” stated Andrew Frank, director of NAIS. “Indigenous artists are frequently marginalized from dialogues surrounding contemporary art and are often only considered in a historical context. This exhibition enables us to witness the ongoing vibrancy of Latin American Indigenous artists, both historical and, importantly, contemporary.”
“Conversaciones” utilizes FSU faculty expertise in ancient Latin American art history and archaeology, aiming to ignite discussions regarding the significance of the artworks displayed over time.
“We’re eager to bring seldom-exhibited works from FSU’s collections into conversation with impactful pieces by modern artists,” Spencer and Carrasco expressed in a unified statement. “‘Conversaciones’ creates an environment for contemplation on how Indigenous legacies survive, evolve, and innovate — prompting us to re-evaluate the lines between historical and current, endurance and transformation.”
