FSU’s Relay For Life Shines Bright with Prestigious National Awards from the American Cancer Society

Relay For Life at Florida State University has been awarded two accolades by the American Cancer Society (ACS) via the Pat Flynn Spirit of Relay Awards, which honors college campuses and organizational leaders at a national level.

Relay For Life at FSU has been distinguished as the 2024 Campus Event of the Year. This accolade acknowledges events that reflect the enthusiasm, creativity, and grassroots essence of Relay For Life.

“It is an incredible privilege for Relay For Life at FSU to be acknowledged for its contributions as a student organization,” stated Stormy McGivern, program director with FSU Student Organizations and Involvement. “These accolades not only recognize the achievements of the organization in 2024 but also genuinely celebrate the enthusiasm, resilience, and commitment of the group over several years. Their collaborative initiatives have positioned them as national frontrunners among their contemporaries. We are excited to have such a dynamic program as a member of the registered student organization community at FSU.”

The awards are selected by the Nationwide American Cancer Society Fundraising Leadership Community and Campus Teams. In the nomination documents, Carlye Collison, FSU’s ACS staff collaborator, emphasized the students’ ingenuity, tenacity, and unwavering spirit in the battle against cancer.

In 2024, Relay For Life at FSU generated over $123,000, exceeding its $108,000 objective. The student-led organization has consistently surpassed its goals, achieving an annual growth of 22% in fundraising.

Catherine Marshall, Relay For Life at FSU 2023-24 executive director, was also recognized as the 2024 Campus Relayer of the Year. This distinction honors volunteers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their community or campus.
