A customisable browser called Respondus Lockdown Browser (LDB) is made to keep students safe when they take tests on Blackboard. During an evaluation, LDB users are not permitted to print, copy, visit another URL, or use any other apps.

LDB can be found in the course navigation menu for students, and teachers can mandate its use on New or Classic quizzes by selecting Settings from the arrow next to each quiz.

Quizzes

Students will be sent an assessment that provides a link to download this software, and when they click it, they will be sent through to install it and take their exam as usual. Instructors using Canvas who require Lockdown Browser-equipped quizzes or tests will receive an assessment.

When Respondus Lockdown is on, the security feature of the Respondus Lockdown Browser stops students from printing, copying, visiting other websites, or using external tools during an online quiz or test. This safeguard helps maintain academic integrity.

The Getting Started for Students guide should be posted on the course website by instructors who plan to use Lockdown Browser in assessments so that students are informed of what to expect and may prepare properly. Additionally, instructors should have printed copies of the quizzes with them in case there are any problems with the software or particular machines during assessments so that students can practice using the software prior to their actual tests.

A warning message informing the student that Respondus LockDown Browser installation is necessary before starting the assessment will appear if they attempt to access a quiz or test in Tests and Quizzes that does. When they choose Yale University’s special LockDown Browser installer, a download and installation window will popup, allowing users to download and install the file on their computer.

After installation is complete, students should run the installer after closing all other programs. Once it has started, a new tab in their browser will open, allowing them to click “Launch LockDown Browser” to start the evaluation. If they are unsure if they launched the right app, they can check the LockDown Browser Dashboard for their course for assistance. Once the assessment is successfully completed, their browser will close, and they will be taken back to LEARN.

Tests

Teachers frequently want to provide exams and assessments online, but they also want to make sure that students can’t use any other applications or websites while completing the test. Please keep in mind that Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor webcam feature cannot completely replace proctored tests in classroom settings, even though it is an efficient approach to assist prevent cheating during an online exam.

Simply check the box next to Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard and Monitor in the Assessment Security section of a test or assignment to require its use during online assessments. It should be noted that some assessment options, such as timing questions and answers or allowing multiple attempts, won’t be available. Enabling Monitor will also prohibit students from leaving until their assessment has been sent in for marking.

Your students can start taking tests in Canvas once they have selected to use the browser and entered their access code. Assessments

In order to avoid cheating in class, some courses mandate that students use a lockdown browser application when taking online examinations. The Respondus Lockdown Browser (LDB) is an interface that makes Canvas assessments more secure. Students cannot leave an assessment until it has been submitted for grading when LDB is engaged since it inhibits them from printing, copying, or visiting other URLs or programs.
