Lockdown Browser is a tool that prevents students from copying or pasting exam questions
Professors can utilize the Respondus Lockdown Browser and Respondus Monitor software to protect the integrity of their tests and quizzes. It is available for faculty use for free and prevents students from copying or pasting questions, printing them out, taking screenshots, or accessing other applications without permission. It also provides instructors with a summary report on student behavior that may identify warning signs like peering at another person’s screen, chatting online while taking the test, or using unsecure app access while taking the test.
LockDown Browser is more of an auxiliary solution than a full-fledged defense against cheating. While LockDown cannot stop students from talking to each other or using the Internet while taking an exam or from engaging in any other form of cheating (including copying and looking up incorrect answers), it does work to stop students from copying or searching for incorrect answers while taking an exam.
The most recent versions of Windows, MacOS, or Chromebooks are required for students who want to use LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor. Respondus software also has to be installed before taking an online test.
Create a password-protected exam in WebAssign, then add a link to it on Blackboard as the first step. Checking “Require LockDown Browser for this exam” is the second step.
The exam settings’ advanced settings provide students discretion over the types of feedback (student reactions, correct/incorrect answers, and test results) they see after finishing an exam. These settings also allow students to view feedback and results after finishing an exam. By selecting Lock Out Students at this Time after, Drop Security and Time Restrictions after can also choose the time after which users would lose access to their browsers. When utilized in a lab setting, it’s crucial to make arrangements in advance with the instructor and IT personnel to get software installed on every computer before the students come!

Lockdown Browser is compatible with the MindTap, McGraw-Hill Connect, and Canvas platforms and allows instructors to specify a password that only proctors can use to close browsers during proctored tests.
Students must download the LockDown Browser before taking a quiz that has this requirement when it is created by an instructor. This allows students to take the quiz without worrying about cheating or being distracted by other tools. Unfortunately, this browser cannot be used with iPads as it is only compatible with PCs or Macs.
