Igniting Wellness: FSU’s Third Annual SPARK Week Champions Student Health

In an effort to raise awareness about the significance of physical and mental well-being as facets of healthcare, Florida State University Campus Recreation is organizing its third annual SPARK Week, taking place from Feb. 24-28. Students will have numerous chances to participate, including interactive art installations, Pilates sessions, mindfulness workshops, and a weekend celebration.

“Each year, the campaign has expanded and has garnered greater engagement,” noted Kari DiDonato, assistant director for marketing, membership, and events at FSU Campus Recreation. “It’s such a motivating week being surrounded by students who are equally passionate about sharing the message of healthy mental and cognitive practices. My spirits are lifted coming to work during SPARK Week.”

Inspired by Dr. John Ratey’s book “The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain,” SPARK is a comprehensive wellness initiative that emphasizes the positive impact of physical and mental health on the brain. FSU’s Campus Recreation, in collaboration with partners involved in the Exercise is Medicine On Campus program, is committed to motivating students to ignite their inner drive to become more active, feel healthier, and enhance their quality of life.

For over six years, FSU has championed the SPARK campaign and has, for the last three years, committed an entire week to host events and activities to encourage positivity, activity, and awareness of mental health.

Exercise is Medicine® (EIM) represents a worldwide health initiative overseen by the American College of Sports Medicine which advocates that healthcare providers incorporate physical activity into treatment plans for patients and guide them to EIM-certified exercise professionals. FSU was initially recognized as a member of EIM in August 2024.
