The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) has designated two biologists from Washington University in St. Louis as fellows for the year 2025.

Being recognized as a fellow signifies a dedication to the ASBMB through a track record of outstanding and ongoing service to the society, complemented by achievements in research, education, mentoring, diversity and inclusion, advocacy, and contributions to the scientific community.

Joseph Jez holds the position of Spencer T. Olin Professor in Biology in the Arts & Sciences. His laboratory investigates how shifts in the environment reshape biochemical pathways in plants at molecular, cellular, and organismal levels, aiming to engineer these systems to tackle agricultural and environmental challenges. Jez is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a professor of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist Fellowship along with the Arthur C. Neish Young Investigator Award. He has participated on the ASBMB Public Affairs Advisory Committee and is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

Himadri Pakrasi serves as the George William and Irene Koechig Freiberg Professor and as a professor of biology within the Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on utilizing systems and synthetic biology to study bioenergy production in cyanobacteria. Pakrasi is also a fellow of AAAS and the American Academy of Microbiology. He has been recognized as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at Munich University and as a Wiley Fellow through the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Additionally, Pakrasi has been involved with the ASBMB Public Affairs Advisory Committee.
