Young-Shin Jun, a faculty member specializing in energy, environmental and chemical engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, has been selected to receive a 2025 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering accolade from the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).
The awards initiative, launched as part of the 2011 International Year of Chemistry celebrations, recognizes and elevates the contributions of female chemists and chemical engineers globally.
Additionally, the president and board of directors of the American Chemical Society (ACS) have appointed Jun as chair of the ACS Committee on Science. In this role, she spearheads initiatives to promote cutting-edge research in chemistry, develop ACS policy statements, and honor exceptional chemists and chemical engineers. From 2020-24, she served as the chair of its science and technology subcommittee and has been an active member since 2017.
Jun’s Environmental NanoChemistry Laboratory enhances the comprehension of nanoscale interfacial chemistry and solid nucleation to address significant challenges in energy and the environment.
