Sixteen pupils from Florida State University offered their time to the City of Tallahassee for the yearly MLK Community Celebration and Festival at Cascades Park on Monday, January 20.
As part of FSU’s 37th Annual MLK Week, “United We Serve” urged FSU students to participate in service initiatives provided by the FSU Center for Leadership & Service’s EngageTLH program. The occasion gathered members from the FSU student group DREAM and the Student Government Association, along with participants from EngageTLH, the Community Ambassador Program, and Service Scholars from the Center for Leadership & Service.
“When learners dedicate themselves to service, they engage in more than just providing assistance; they are gaining insights alongside local leaders while cultivating trust and collective empowerment within their community,” stated Maria-Paula McIntyre, program coordinator for EngageTLH.
Student volunteers took part in localized community service and connected with the historical aspects of Tallahassee showcased throughout Cascades Park.
“The MLK Day activities organized by the City of Tallahassee are crucial for nurturing community and encouraging service,” expressed Priyanka Perumalraja, a sophomore at FSU pursuing computational biology. “Service acts as a means of uniting the community to tackle a community necessity in a pragmatic manner and is one of the most vital components of our society.”
