Lockdown Download For Mac

Lockdown Download For Mac is a secure browser designed to prevent cheating during online assessments. Instructors can utilize this software to conduct proctored exams inside Canvas courses.

Students should take an initial practice quiz in their Cougar Courses to test Respondus Lockdown Browser before taking an assessment test. If it doesn’t function as expected, contact OIT immediately for assistance.

1. Installation

Respondus Lockdown Browser is a custom browser designed to secure exam environments within specific learning systems and prevent students from leaving during testing. When required by their instructor to take an exam using Respondus Lockdown Browser, students cannot print, visit other URLs, switch applications or copy questions during the exam itself – perfect for proctored exams in campus computer labs as well as “take-home” tests online.

It is a lightweight application designed to run on most Windows, Mac OSX, and Chromebook computers and is easily downloadable via a link provided when an instructor adds lockdown options to a test in Canvas. Once students click this link, a page with instructions for installing and using the browser will appear with instructions requiring administrative rights on their machine to install properly.

Students need to click the “Install Now” button on this page, accept the terms and conditions, and select an installation file location (defaulting to Downloads). When finished installing, the installer window will close and an icon for their browser should appear in Applications folder.

Once the app has been installed, students can launch it by clicking the Lockdown Browser icon on their desktop or in Spotlight search. When clicked, this browser will take them directly to myMason/Blackboard where they can log-in and navigate directly to their course before beginning their quiz. When completed, students may close all blocked applications (like instant messaging or screen capture programs ) before returning back into class where they use Monitor tool to submit answers and obtain grades.

2. Configuration

If a student cannot save answers, move onto other questions, submit or exit their formative, there may be an issue with their Internet connection. This may be caused by WiFi that drops out frequently or an issue with their firewall blocking Canvas. For optimal performance when taking exams in Lockdown Browser mode, students should connect an Ethernet cable directly to their router via Lockdown Browser mode; this will ensure a stable connection to Canvas server without dropped or interrupted connections.

Lockdown browsers also mandate that any programs which could facilitate cheating be closed down, including screen capture and instant messaging programs. When asked, students should respond with “Yes”. Once all these requirements have been fulfilled, students can access the assessment they were assigned and take the exam in browser mode.

Once students complete their exam, they will be directed to press either the physical power button or sign out in order to exit their browser. If this page doesn’t load or disappears altogether, restarting their Chromebook might be required in order to fully exit lockdown mode; or alternatively they can use their instructor-provided “Quit Password” to exit quickly and correctly.

If a student encounters a page indicating they cannot connect to Respondus servers, this means they are using an alternative browser from Respondus website that does not link directly with Respondus servers. This could be caused by antivirus or firewall programs blocking browser connections to these servers; to rectify the situation they should disable these and reboot their computer prior to trying out Respondus again.

3. Security

Cheaters will always find ways around security measures, but macOS Ventura makes their lives difficult. Furthermore, its comprehensive security measures help safeguard users and protect their personal information by blocking most attachments in Messages, disabling “complex web technologies”, and stopping incoming FaceTime calls – among other safeguards. In order to activate all these security features you will require macOS Ventura running.

Before students can use Respondus Lockdown Browser to take an exam, they must agree to its terms of use and allow their instructor to view their screen. Once this step has been taken, they can click the Launch Exam link in Canvas and follow its directions for starting their quiz or test. They should close all programs, shutdown or restart their computer and switch off mobile phones before beginning, as this helps minimize connection drops during exams as well as ensure only relevant processes run on their system during that period of time. For more details on using Lockdown Browser to take tests or exams they can refer to either of two guides available online: Student Quick Start Guide and General Test Taking Guide.

Respondus Monitor allows teachers to enable an essential feature that records student screens and webcams while taking exams, helping to detect any cheating by students or any technical difficulties during an exam session. It will appear as an option when creating exams from within their Settings menu.

Student must make sure their Lockdown Browser program stays current with new versions as they’re released, by selecting About from the toolbar in their Lockdown browser program and clicking Check for Updates.

4. Settings

Lockdown Download For Mac can help prevent students from accessing other programs, tabs or websites during an assessment. Students can follow these steps to download and start using this app:

For any inquiries concerning Lockdown settings, students should reach out to their instructor or Canvas administrator. Instructors can provide students with a Quit Password so they can exit without losing answers; additionally, it’s recommended that they shut off all devices fully (i.e. remove battery if using Chromebook) at the conclusion of each exam session.

Some versions of Lockdown require that students complete a non-graded exam prior to taking graded ones, helping ensure they understand how the software works and have an understanding of how best to utilize it. Students can take these practice exams wherever graded exams would normally take place in an institution’s learning management system and can find these practice exams via clicking “About” in the browser toolbar.

Before taking an online assessment with Respondus LockDown Browser, students should make sure their computer meets all of the system requirements listed below. In addition, it is advisable for them to close all other programs except one used to connect to the Internet before starting an exam; note that certain anti-virus and security applications may block links within Lockdown Browser.

Respondus LockDown Browser will be installed once upon opening an assignment in WebAssign that requires its use; any problems during installation or running should be reported directly to their instructor or Canvas admin for guidance.

5. Reporting

Lockdown Browser offers students a way to keep tabs on their progress during an exam/quiz by showing a progress bar at the top of each page, showing percentage completed and prompts should they need to close or re-open browser in order to complete all questions. They can then view results of each question once submitted for scoring.

Students should be informed that Respondus LockDown Browser/Respondus Monitor is a separate, stand-alone browser and will not work within their regular web browsers while taking an examination with it. Therefore, they should follow all directions for downloading and installing it, including selecting their institution as Northeastern State University since we are in a consortium relationship with them.

Respondus Monitor extends LockDown Browser by recording testing sessions via webcam on student laptops, providing instructors with additional evidence in cases of suspected academic misconduct during unproctored assessments. More details on its usage and contents can be found at Respondus Monitor Resource Site.

If a student experiences difficulty using software during a test, it is advised that they contact either their instructor or ETS Student Help Desk immediately. An instructor may offer additional troubleshooting tips and assistance in order to resolve their issue; otherwise it might be beneficial for them to restart their computer as this may resolve some software-related issues. It also would be prudent for them to clear their browser history and cache before taking tests in order to ensure optimal results.
