Mdc Respondus Lockdown Browser

Students can use Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor tool to protect themselves against cheating during online exams. It prevents students from accessing other URLs, downloading other applications, taking screenshots or copying exam questions.

Students enrolled in several NC State classes have reported that their professors are mandating Respondus lockdown programs during exams; however, many find it challenging to download them properly.

It prevents cheating

Respondus Lockdown Browser is a program designed to prevent students from cheating during online exams. Using student webcams, this system monitors student actions and reports suspected violations directly to instructors while blocking access to any programs, websites, or apps which facilitate academic dishonesty. While this program may feel intrusive to some students and violate their privacy, it has proven its worth as an effective means of combatting cheating during tests and assignments.

This program includes a customized browser and monitoring software designed specifically to work on Google Chromebooks. To use it, students should log into any quiz or exam in their Canvas course and click “Download Respondus Lockdown Browser”; once downloaded, their new tab with Respondus Lockdown Browser will open immediately – closing all other applications before beginning testing or quizzing.

Respondus Lockdown Browser records video footage of student environments during assessment sessions to allow instructors to monitor for suspicious activity such as answers being stolen by neighboring students or being distracted from taking the exam themselves. Furthermore, Respondus Lockdown helps instructors verify whether a student has not become disengaged from his/her task by verifying the recording video footage against student attendance records.

Respondus Lockdown Browser not only records students’ surroundings, but it also monitors their body language and eye movements to detect any attempts at cheating during testing. If someone moves their head away from the screen or into areas not covered by their webcam webcam, Respondus Lockdown Browser interprets this action as evidence of cheating and flags it accordingly.

Respondus Lockdown Browser’s ability to detect cheating lies in its ability to prevent students from minimizing the assessment window, making it impossible to switch applications or search for answers during an exam. Furthermore, Respondus Lockdown Browser blocks access to specific types of applications including instant messaging services.

Though this software is effective in deterring cheating, some students still find ways around its restrictions. One method involves creating a virtual machine (VM) on the same computer where Respondus runs and running its program there instead – provided this VM runs Windows 8 or higher with dedicated graphics card and enough RAM space so as not to affect resources on main computer.

It is easy to use

Respondus Lockdown Browser is a custom browser designed to block students from accessing URLs, switching applications, taking screenshots or copying questions during online exams. It serves as an effective security measure that improves Moodle quiz testing online while simultaneously helping detect cheating and provide evidence against individuals for potential disciplinary hearings.

The software tracks audio, video and keyboard/mouse activity during an exam session for monitoring. This data is sent to an independent proctor who then observes how students take the test; should an illegal method be discovered during testing, an alarm will be raised with both instructors and students as soon as the proctor detects such use – leading to possible disqualification if found.

As well as monitoring student’s computer and microphone use, software also employs facial recognition technology to identify each student. This feature is especially helpful when proctoring at a distance where proctor cannot see student. Unfortunately, however, this technology cannot always detect fake faces or mirrored images; therefore it is crucial that test takers use an uncluttered room without distractions and do not wear clothing that covers face during test. In addition, they should avoid wearing hats/scarfs over face area as these could obstruct facial recognition technology’s recognition capabilities during test.

Students utilizing LockDown Browser software must log into their institution’s learning system and navigate to an exam that requires LockDown Browser. When they click “Launch LockDown Browser”, their browser will begin loading automatically; any attempt at opening another browser will trigger a warning about using LockDown Browser instead. Using the software is straightforward, and instructors can assist students as needed with guidance or direction from within LockDown Browser itself.

Instructors can help students become adept with Respondus software by offering practice tests before any graded exams. This will familiarize them with its applications and ensure a smooth user experience – students may contact IU and/or Respondus support for assistance if needed, with free access available to IU students.

It is free
