Respondus Lockdown Browser For Chromebook

Respondus Lockdown Browser For Chromebook is a web-based solution for proctoring online exams, supporting Blackboard Learn, D2L Brightspace, Schoology and Moodle platforms as well as student owned devices and managed devices.

Instructors may enable this custom browser for each exam to prevent students from printing, copying, going to another URL or accessing applications during assessments.

It caters to students

Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor may be required by your instructor during a quiz or exam to create a secure testing environment and prevent you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during assessments. Once complete, these tools will shut off automatically before returning your computer back to normal setup – if unsure whether these tools should be installed prior to taking an assessment. To be safe, always consult your instructor beforehand!

Students can now take Respondus exams on their Chromebooks with the new LockDown Browser and Monitor Chromebook extension, available through Canvas, Blackboard Learn, D2L Brightspace, Schoology and Schoology. Students need to install it prior to taking an exam – as this extension works both with student-owned devices as well as institutionally owned ones.

To use this extension, students should log on to their Chromebooks and clear any blocked programs before launching the application. Once launched, the app will prompt students to follow a Startup Sequence that includes taking pictures, recording the test environment and/or providing ID. This startup sequence ensures a safe testing environment free from disruptions.

Once your quiz is complete, LockDown Browser will close automatically and your Chromebook will return to its normal settings. If you wish to reactivate it in the future, rebooting is required before it will work again. For any technical inquiries relating to using this extension please reach out to the Respondus support team for help.

Respondus Lockdown Browser is an invaluable tool for combatting cheating during online exams. It caters to teachers

Respondus Lockdown Browser, also known as LDB and Monitor, is an integration for taking tests within Blackboard Learn that promotes examination equity and integrity by prohibiting students from printing, copying, going to another URL or accessing other applications during an exam or quiz. Available both for Windows and Mac computers, installing this specialized web browser early is important so students become acquainted with its features and limitations prior to an examination or quiz taking place.

In addition to locking down browsers, the LDB also secures applications and tools such as chat programs, other browsers, function keys and screen capture – giving instructors greater control of student testing experiences. Faculty should take advantage of teaching a no-credit practice quiz using LDB before beginning formal testing sessions with it.

Once an exam is over, students will be instructed to use their physical power button to sign out or shut down their computer and exit LDB mode. At this time it’s advisable to clear browser cache and history to ensure that their test scores can be accurately represented on Canvas. They can then restart LDB extension and log back into Canvas account.

This extension is compatible with iPads, but must be enabled by an instructor in advanced settings for exams requiring LDB and/or Monitor. Once a device meets these criteria and student has administrative access, they should follow these instructions: Using an iPad with Respondus LDB + Monitor.

Make sure that students taking an LDB exam are sitting in a well-lit, quiet area with clear lighting. If their exam requires webcam and monitor use, ensure they have unobstructed views out the window while wearing their headsets comfortably while taking exams or quizzes. Finally, try and complete exams within their instructor-set availability dates as otherwise the error message would indicate the Quiz was locked requiring another attempt later on by either themselves or another student.

It caters to schools

Respondus Lockdown Browser For Chromebook stands out among the competition as one that’s been designed specifically to meet students’ unique needs, removing distractions that come with other internet browsers and making assessments easy for students to take in an organized, controlled setting.

Respondus LDB + Monitor’s latest version offers Chromebook support, allowing instructors to enable Chromebook versions of exams while students must install an extension before taking quizzes. To do so, navigate to an ACC exam and click “Lockdown Browser”, this will open a window prompting students to install their extension – once done they can begin their quiz!

Lockdown Browser and Monitor” is now included with the software to enable instructors to use during exams to limit access to websites, apps and other applications – helping prevent students from cheating by searching Google or asking classmates for answers; while also saving over 100 million sheets annually.

Instructors may enable RLDB and RB in Brightspace online middle/high school quizzes for students, and when students launch them onto their devices the extension will automatically install itself; however it has some restrictions; when trying to start a quiz with this feature enabled they will receive an error message saying Google Chrome OS couldn’t open this page and need to close their browser tab before continuing the quiz.

Blackboard plugins for RB and RLDB exams are accessible in the student Support tab of Blackboard. In order to install these plugins, students will require the latest version of Chrome installed on both their computer and Chromebook as well as accessing Chrome’s App Store on both. It should be noted that this plugin only works during exams requiring RB and LB exams – it will not support mobile devices like iPads.
