Lockdown Browser Windows 7

This software also disables other common OS functions such as document printing, right-clicking, tab switching and screen capturing – meaning students will only be able to exit their assessments once submitted for grading.

Instructors should use Respondus Lockdown Browser software to facilitate an easy student experience by setting up a brief, non-graded practice exam for them to use before taking any graded exams with it. This will familiarize them with its functionality while giving them time to test it prior to graded examinations.

Installation

Installing and using RLDB may seem intimidating for users, but its functionality is straightforward. Once it has been downloaded and installed, RLDB acts as an online proctoring experience during quizzes and exams for students enrolled. To maximize student participation in any graded test or examination using this software, it is strongly suggested that students download and install it prior to starting any graded quiz or examination – this way instructors can create short non-graded tests so students can familiarise themselves with it and ensure everything works smoothly.

Typically, software can be downloaded from a secure website and then run the installer file. A number of prompts will then appear for users to set their preferred installation location and complete installation. After installing, users must close all applications except those necessary for internet connectivity and disable screen capture or instant messaging programs before reconnecting their computers to the internet.

Once a student has completed the installation process, they should visit a course that requires RLDB and navigate directly to its quiz activity. When on this page they will be asked to click “Launch Lockdown Browser,” at which point a new tab will open which allows accessing quiz questions without leaving RLDB’s environment.

To utilize the browser, users must first be signed into their UConn account with HuskyCT enabled. Students may be able to rent laptops that already come equipped with this software from campus technology support centers; it will not work on personal computers that have different versions of Windows or Chromebook devices.

While online proctoring software enables teachers to administer tests from anywhere, it poses certain privacy concerns. Since it takes control of your webcam and microphone, the software can monitor all activities occurring on your computer – including any suspicion of cheating behavior on it. This may cause great concern among many students taking tests that could impact their futures.

Uninstalling

If you no longer need the Lockdown Browser, it can be easily uninstalled using standard methods for uninstalling programs on your computer. Beware that uninstalling software may leave behind remnants on your system that could lead to future issues; for this reason it’s wise to be wary when uninstalling programs, and install an external uninstaller if possible to ensure its removal completely. To keep traces from remaining after uninstalling an application like Lockdown Browser completely.

Before initiating the uninstall process, ensure you are logged into an Administrator account on your computer and that any programs currently running (particularly webcam recording programs such as Google’s Screencastify) can interfere with it and cause errors or even prevent you from taking an exam. You can do this by opening up the Applications folder in Finder, right-clicking (or control-clicking) the icon of each application you wish to uninstall and selecting “Move to Trash” from its contextual menu.

After you have finished uninstalling Respondus LockDown Browser 2 – Lab Edition, be sure to empty your Trash in order to ensure all associated files and directories have been deleted from your system. Alternatively, Advanced Uninstaller PRO can scan for any remaining remnants associated with Respondus LockDown Browser 2 – Lab Edition on your system and remove them as soon as found.

Lockdown Browser is an innovative application developed specifically to facilitate online testing and examinations at educational institutions, seamlessly integrating into Learning Management Systems. The software temporarily blocks students’ access to other applications on the computer while also enabling instructors to monitor students’ facial expressions, eye movements and body language during examination sessions and record and analyze student behavior for signs of cheating. Lockdown Browser is free for students using it at universities or academic institutions worldwide – supporting both Windows and Mac platforms.

Troubleshooting

Lockdown Browser software enables students to take proctored exams at home, without the need for a live proctor. Used globally in academic institutions to prevent cheating during exams and tests, this system prevents students from accessing other applications or switching programs during exams/tests while keeping tabs on them using webcam surveillance to detect any possible cheating attempts in real time while recording it for later review by instructors.

Lockdown Browser may stop working properly during an exam for several reasons. Common examples are security settings or another program preventing access, or an internet connection failure which results in freezing or crashing of the browser. Most problems can usually be remedied by reinstalling or upgrading to the latest version of the Lockdown Browser application.

To solve the issue, ensure your Respondus software is the latest version by selecting “About” on the toolbar and clicking on the “Check for Update” option – this will prompt your browser to download an updated version.

Third-party programs such as Dropbox, Skype, instant messaging clients, Facebook, BitTorrent and Spotify may interfere with the Lockdown Browser and prevent it from functioning correctly. To resolve this problem, update Respondus software, reboot computer and shut off any utilities which might interfere. If the browser still doesn’t work after this step has been taken please contact Technology Service Center for assistance.

Many students experience issues with their browser during exams due to an error in HTML engine, system components or settings – this problem can affect both Windows and Macintosh computers.

To resolve this issue, try reinstalling or upgrading your browser version. If the problem continues, try switching browsers; wired instead of WiFi connections may also help; antivirus software could interfere with browsing sessions; in this instance it should be disabled immediately.

Final Words

At a time when most courses are held online, there is an urgent need to combat exam fraud. Although cheating may not violate moral codes, it undermines the credibility of academic institutes if their graduates cannot be trusted to carry out what they claim they can. Lockdown Browser, developed by Respondus Inc and designed to ensure remote exams are free from digital cheating, is one such product designed for this purpose. Locking down a student’s computer to prevent them from viewing notes or searching the web for answers during assessments as well as recording webcam footage to monitor them for suspicious behavior can prevent digital cheating and ensure fair assessments for all.

Students utilizing Respondus Lockdown Browser must first ensure that they are taking an assessment that requires it, then install its extension on their Chromebook by visiting its website and browsing to its quiz or exam in Canvas that utilizes it and select “Add LockDown Browser.

Once RLDB has been enabled for an assessment, students should close any programs not necessary for taking it (i.e. screen capture software, instant messaging etc). Once an assessment begins in RLDB it cannot be left until it has been graded; after which students can log back into their regular browser and resume working.

While not providing a comprehensive approach to exam proctoring, remote test proctoring products like ProctorU can still help reduce cheating during remote exams. Although not able to prevent all forms of cheating if someone in the room watches over things, so the product must be used alongside other tools in order to effectively combat fraud in remote exam sessions such as classroom proctors or remote proctors monitoring remotely – providing assessments with high rigor even in an age of digital cheating.
