James Eggers, a graduate student at Florida State University in the Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies program within the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (Anne’s College), has been recognized as one of 22 McCain Global Leaders for the 2025 cohort.
The McCain Global Leaders initiative is a year-long fellowship named in honor of Senator John McCain, aimed at supporting budding leaders committed to democracy, human rights, and freedom. It equips them with essential skills and insights to confront global issues and create positive impacts in their communities.
“Being chosen as a McCain Global Scholar is an outstanding accomplishment and a reflection of James’s continuous dedication as a servant leader,” stated Keith McCall, assistant director of the Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards. “As a previous Fulbright recipient, an active member of the Coast Guard, and currently a McCain Scholar, James embodies the blend of academic distinction and globally-minded public service.”
Eggers, a devoted officer in the Coast Guard, possesses extensive experience in both service and education. Prior to joining FSU, he was involved in Teach for America and completed a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in 2015. His dedication to service and mentorship shines through in his professional and academic endeavors.
“I am truly honored to have been selected as a McCain Global Leader and am thankful for the chance to connect with a group of emerging leaders who honor Senator McCain’s legacy of service and integrity,” Eggers remarked. “The program nurtures 20-25 principled leaders each year globally. Senator McCain’s model of character-based leadership highlights the obligation we all possess to prioritize principles over partisanship and contribute to making the world a more secure and improved place.”
Eggers will collaborate with individuals from diverse nations and backgrounds, engaging in a series of rigorous training programs, networking occasions, and joint initiatives.
“We are immensely proud to see James Eggers acknowledged as a McCain Global Leader,” commented Damon Andrew, dean of Anne’s College. “James’s dedication to affecting global change aligns seamlessly with our mission at Anne’s College to nurture transformative leaders, and we eagerly look forward to the positive influence he is sure to impart on the world.”
Applications for the subsequent cohort will be available in early 2026. For further details about the McCain Global Leaders program and its objectives, please visit mccaininstitute.org.
