Jianjun Guan, a globally acknowledged authority in biomaterials and tissue engineering, has been appointed the Earl E. and Myrtle E. Walker Professor of Engineering.
A member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science at Washington University in St. Louis since 2018, Guan is well-regarded for his advancements in regenerative medicine, biomaterials, and drug delivery. His studies cover cardiovascular and musculoskeletal tissue regeneration, emphasizing functional biomaterials and microenvironments for cellular and drug delivery; biomaterials for noninvasive, real-time biosensing and imaging; and targeted treatments utilizing nanoparticles and engineered extracellular vesicles.
“Jianjun Guan’s research exemplifies what is achievable at the convergence of advanced engineering and medicine,” remarked Aaron F. Bobick, dean of the McKelvey School of Engineering and the James M. McKelvey Professor.
