Dr. J. Westley Ohman, serving as an associate professor of surgery and an authority in advanced aortic surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been designated as the inaugural director of the Division of Vascular Surgery within the Department of Surgery. Ohman will be the division’s first director, which was formerly a section of the Division of General Surgery. He began his new responsibilities on June 15.
Ohman has been instrumental in transforming the Medical Campus into a hub for individuals suffering from complicated aortic conditions. In the adult sector, he is a co-director of the WashU Medicine Aortic Center, a multidisciplinary facility that specializes in the assessment and management of aortic disease. On the pediatric side, he co-established and leads the surgical direction of the Aortic and Renovascular Center for Hypertension at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, a comprehensive clinic focused on treating young patients with aortic and renal disorders.
