However, there are persistent vulnerabilities that attackers continue to exploit, even if they have been around for quite some time. %%cve:2017-11882%% is an example: this remote code execution affects Microsoft Office and, specifically, the classic “Equation Editor”. This utility was ultimately retired by Microsoft due to frequent security concerns[1]. Nevertheless, it is still utilized by threat actors to disseminate contemporary malware.
