(Left to right) Florida State University students Ella Owens, Olivia Leichter, and Michael Cedeno participated in the Digital Education for Digital Transformation: Shaping the Future of Learning and Innovation conference, organized by the World Learning and Digital Communication Network Program in Seoul, South Korea, from June 15-17, following their collaboration on an Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program.

Three students from Florida State University, who connected through an undergraduate research initiative, journeyed to Seoul, South Korea, this summer to engage in a conference centered on how emerging technologies are influencing education.

Ella Owens, a business management major from Orlando; Olivia Leichter, a student specializing in violin performance along with risk management and insurance from Sarasota; and Michael Cedeno, a graduate pursuing product development from Ocala, were present at the Digital Education for Digital Transformation: Shaping the Future of Learning and Innovation conference, facilitated by the World Learning and Digital Communication Network Program, that took place from June 15-17.

This chance arose after the students worked together on a research endeavor through FSU’s Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) focusing on entrepreneurship in Ukraine. They collaborated with their research advisor, Eric Liguori, Jim Moran professor and associate dean of the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship, and showcased their findings at FSU’s annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in April.

“Ella, Olivia, and Michael dedicated the entire previous academic year interviewing entrepreneurs in Ukraine as part of a research project in my lab, so when the chance arose for students to join this program, I immediately recognized they would be ideal representatives to go to South Korea to showcase FSU and the United States at this global event,” Liguori expressed. “The Jim Moran College is devoted to providing opportunities for all FSU students, irrespective of their majors, who are interested in entrepreneurship.”
