Capitalizing on robust initial achievements, WashU has secured a $1.1 million grant over four years to enhance its involvement in the Kessler Scholars Collaborative and amplify its efforts to guarantee opportunities and success for first-generation, low-income college students.

In 2022, Washington University in St. Louis established its Kessler Scholars Program, focusing on recruiting and aiding first-generation and low-income students dedicated to enhancing society through their degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The Kessler Scholars at WashU receive tailored advising and assistance from committed staff and peer mentors; cohort-based initiatives to foster a sense of community, along with research-based programs aimed at strengthening first-generation students’ capabilities and bolstering their academic, personal, and career growth.
The Kessler Scholars Collaborative comprises 16 institutions and is supported by a collective investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Judy and Fred Wilpon Family Foundation.
