Undergraduate fees for the academic year 2025-26 for scholars not receiving financial assistance at Washington University in St. Louis will be $68,240, reflecting an increase of $3,740 from the current rate of $64,500, as stated by Beverly Wendland, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Rates for a shared accommodation for these students will vary between $13,970 and $14,568, while meal plans will range from $5,880 to $8,770. The student activities fee is set at $682, and the health and wellness fee will be $672.

Numerous students will pay less, contingent on the amount of financial aid they obtain. This will hinge on various factors, such as household earnings and the number of siblings currently enrolled in college. To enhance clarity regarding what families can anticipate in terms of expenses, WashU is the first institution in the nation to introduce a new Instant Net Price Estimator, which swiftly provides an estimated tuition range based on just two simple data points.

“Our aim is for each family to contribute what they can manage. This calculator is valuable in offering further transparency into the personalized cost of a WashU education,” Wendland expressed in a letter to parents and families. “We appreciate your ongoing support, especially in these times of financial unpredictability. We take our responsibility as custodians of your investment seriously and will persist in exploring new methods to operate the university efficiently while delivering students remarkable academic, research, and co-curricular experiences.”

Wendland also emphasized that this year’s increase is essential as the university faces a potentially substantial reduction in federal research funding as well as a likely rise in the federal endowment tax. “We remain dedicated to educational excellence and accessibility as we strategize and navigate the numerous policy changes currently being contemplated at the federal level. WashU will continue to address the financial requirements of our students through a variety of scholarships and initiatives,” Wendland stated.

Students eligible for need-based financial aid will be considered for the hikes in costs as well as any alterations in their families’ financial situations, and they are encouraged to reach out to Student Financial Services.

All university financial aid schemes, including the “no-loan” undergraduate financial assistance policy and the WashU Pledge that offers a complimentary undergraduate education to students in Missouri and southern Illinois with family incomes of $75,000 or lower, remain fully operational, Wendland affirmed.

An FAQ regarding tuition and the university’s financial resources was included with the letter.
